TESD is currently within the 60-day due diligence period to investigate a site for a sixth elementary school
For the past several years, TESD has been evaluating sites for a possible sixth elementary school to address elementary enrollment disparities, improve facilities utilization and provide space to accommodate full-day kindergarten. After considering the advantages, limitations and cost considerations of District-owned sites, as well as 18 properties with existing buildings that are not owned by the District, TESD decided that a property at 1200 West Swedesford Road in Berwyn could lend itself well to future use as an elementary school.
The T/E School Board authorized the District to enter into an Agreement of Sale for the 1200 West Swedesford Road property for $15.95 million. Adapting an existing building to an elementary school provides a solution that is environmentally-friendly and preserves open space on District-owned land. The District is currently within the 60-day due diligence period of the agreement. During this time, TESD will thoroughly inspect and investigate the property to determine whether it is suitable for an elementary school. The District will provide an update to the public following the 60-day due diligence period.
Last month, two public presentations were made to provide the community with details on a prospective elementary school site as well as background information on enrollment, classroom utilization and drivers for full-day kindergarten. Video recordings and presentation slides from the January 2 and January 17 presentations are available on the TESD website at www.tesd.net/enrollment.
